First Home Owners Grant
First Home Owners Grant
The First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) is a scheme that helps first home buyers get a foot on the property ladder.
The grant was first introduced in 2000 to offset anticipated rises in house prices from the GST. Since then the grant has undergone several changes and is currently awarded up to a maximum of $7,000 on a national level. Additional boosts occur at state level.
Although the FHOG is a federal scheme it is administered by state governments. Variations in eligibility criteria and amounts awarded may therefore occur between the states and territories.
